National Record Store Day
Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 9:50AM UPDATE 4/23/12: A whole year has passed since National Record Store Day 2011. With that in mind, I wanted to let all of you know that vinyl sales continue to climb, according to Digital Music News, vinyl sales were up 39% in 2011. Keep spinning.
"While gains in digital sales might signal a shift away from sales of physical music, sales of vinyl albums grew by 33%, with 2.5 million vinyl units sold (in 2009)....Also notable is the fact that two out of every three vinyl albums were purchased at an independent music store"
We went to 5 record stores in Chicago last Saturday morning, and every store was packed by 9am. There were enough special releases and bargains to get every vinyl loving hipster out of bed by 8AM on a Saturday.
Make your own conclussions about record sales, but this makes me happy. Itunes, you can take the day off.
Long line outside Reckless Records
